HIVQUAL in Thailand
The HIVQUAL Project in Thailand, known as HIVQUAL-T, was implemented as a pilot program in 2003 with 12 hospitals, and now extends to 914 locations throughout the country.
HIVQUAL-T began with 6 core indicators. For performance measurement, the Team developed both paper abstract forms and a customized version of the HIVQUAL software. HIVQUAL-T has also been expanded to include pediatric indicators.
QI initiatives were implemented following the initial data collection and analysis, such as improved HIV database systems and increased education for providers and patients on the importance of specific aspects of clinical care.
Today, HIVQUAL-T is integrated into the Thai healthcare system.

Thailand: Country Background
 |
Located in Southeast Asia, Thailand is home to more than 60 million people. In 2005, more than half a million people in Thailand were estimated to be living with HIV/AIDS. Since the 1990s, the Thai government has taken an aggressive approach towards the epidemic, promoting widespread condom use and other prevention strategies. These strategies have been largely successful; however HIV prevalence in high-risk populations (such as IDUs and female sex workers) remains quite high.
As of 2007, more than 130,000 people living with HIV/AIDS in Thailand were receiving antiretroviral treatment. This population represents more than 50% of those who are considered eligible for treatment (CD4 count lower than 200 cells/mm3)
