About HIVQUAL International

The mission of the HIVQUAL project is to improve the quality of care for persons living with HIV/AIDS by building capacity and capability for HIV quality management worldwide.

The HIVQUAL Project began in New York State as an endeavor sponsored by the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute and the HIV/AIDS Bureau of the US Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).  Modeled after New York’s HIV Quality of Care Program, the National Project was launched in 1995 and has now expanded to over 200 sites in the US.

HIVQUAL International began in 2003 in Thailand, and has since expanded to Uganda, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Haiti and Guyana.  The HIVQUAL model has been successfully adapted in these countries, adjusting for differences in guidelines, resources and healthcare models.

HIVQUAL International is supported by the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator (OGAC), HRSA, the CDC Global AIDS Program (GAP) Office in each country, where the project is integrated into the national AIDS program.
